Educational Tour at Statue of Unity, Diu Island and Somnath in Gujarat_27-30.02.2024

On 27-30 January 2024, a 4-day educational tour was organized for the students of MA first & third semester and research scholars of the Department of Geography in the state of Gujarat at Statue of Unity, Valley of Flowers, Sardar Sarovar Dam, Biological Park, Diu Fort on Diu Island, St. Paul's Church, Gangeshwar Temple, INS Khukri Memorial, Nagoya Beach and Somnath etc. In this tour, the students got an opportunity to know about the role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in the integration of India after independence, as well as different types of flowers, wild life and their life. They visited the nearby Sardar Sarovar Dam and understood the construction of the dam. On the island of Diu, students got an opportunity to understand the ocean, sea, bay, tides, sea waves, and the landforms made by them such as beech, caves, cliff, stake etc. Also visited the historic fort of Diu (1535-1541) on the island of Diu. One of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India, they also got the opportunity to visit Somnath Jyotirlinga, which is a very ancient and historical Shiva temple. All the students got a golden opportunity to understand the geography of the entire region through satellite images and to do field verification of the objects seen in the images. 25 students/research scholars along with 02 teachers participated in the tour.
